THAILAND CHANGES TOURIST ENTRY RULES FROM DECEMBER 16

The changes relate to the PCR testing procedures (some of the tests have been canceled) and the terms of quarantine. It is possible for those who have been ill to go to Thailand, but the conditions need to be clarified .

Thailand's COVID-19 Management Center (CCSA) has approved a simplification of entry rules for foreign tourists from December 16 under all three schemes - Test & Go, Sandbox and Quarantine. The texts of the new rules have already been published on the website of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) - in English. In the very near future, the changes will be officially announced in the Royal Thai Government Gazette.

IN THE "SANDBOX" QUARANTINE IS REDUCED, POSSIBLY

From December 16, the period of stay in the territory of the province of entry will be reduced. From December 16, foreigners who come to Thailand under the sandbox program will have to stay in the territory of the selected province not for a week, but only 5 days.

Also, these exemptions will apply to tourists arriving by land, but from December 24.

It is also possible to enter Thailand for tourists who had been ill within 3 months before the trip (it is counted from the date of the onset of the disease, i.e. from the first positive test).

They must have a medical certificate of recovery or (encouraged) to be vaccinated with at least one dose of an approved vaccine at any time prior to travel.

Note that the conjunction "or" seems very strange (after all, a certificate of recovery will be needed in any case), but so in the original English of the changed rules: travelers previously infected within 3 months before traveling must have a medical certificate of recovery or get vaccinated with at least one dose of an approved vaccine for an unspecified period of times before traveling.

It is possible that this is a mistake, but it means those who have recovered, who received one dose of the vaccine plus their certificate of recovery. The editors requested comments from the Thai Embassy.

ONE OF THE PCR TESTS WILL BE REPLACED BY AN EXPRESS TEST

Upon arrival, tourists will need to pass the PCR test as before and wait for the result in the SHA + hotel room. However, on day 4-5, the PCR test will no longer be necessary - it will be replaced by an express test.

PCR TEST FOR CHILDREN UNDER 6 YEARS OLD IS CANCELED

Travelers under the age of 6 will no longer need to do a PCR test 72 hours before entering the kingdom from December 16. Upon arrival, they will be able to take a saliva test.

Travelers aged 6-11 years 72 hours before entering Thailand will be required to have a PCR test.

OTHER SANDBOX  TERMS  FORMAT

The rest of the entry conditions for the Sandbox program remain unchanged:

  • each tourist needs an insurance policy with coverage of at least USD 50,000.
  • every tourist aged 18 and over must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a vaccine approved in Thailand.
  • every tourist must get a negative PCR test, done no earlier than 72 hours before the travel date.

PLEASURES FOR TOURISTS COMING TO THAILAND WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE TEST & GO PROGRAM

Also, innovations await vaccinated tourists from 63 countries who have the right to come to the country without quarantine as part of the Test & Go program. Let us remind you that Russia is not yet on this list.

Tourists who come to Thailand as part of the Test & Go program are exempted from taking a PCR test upon arrival in the kingdom from December 16. It will be replaced by an express test, the readiness of which is 15 minutes. This means that tourists no longer have to wait for results at the SHA ++ hotel booked in advance. The mandatory booking requirement for a package of services (1 night at the SHA ++ hotel, 1 test and a pre-arranged airport transfer) is also canceled.

These exemptions will apply to tourists arriving by land and sea. The relief starts on December 24, 2021.

TERMS OF ENTRANCE FOR CHILDREN ON TEST & GO

Travelers 6-11 years old traveling with parents must get a negative PCR test within 72 hours of travel. Tourists aged 12-17 traveling with their parents are not required to be vaccinated, but must have a negative PCR test obtained within 72 hours of travel.

Parents can be ill (with a certificate, the date of onset of the disease must be no earlier than three months before entering Thailand) or recovered and vaccinated with one dose of a vaccine approved in Thailand.

The rest of the Test & Go conditions remain unchanged:

  • insurance policy with coverage of at least USD 50,000.
  • everyone 18 years of age or older must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with an approved vaccine at least 14 days prior to travel to Thailand
  • every tourist must have a negative PCR test done no earlier than 72 hours before the travel date.

WHAT CHANGES ARE WAITING FOR TOURISTS WITHIN THE QUARANTINE PROGRAM

Reliefs are expected from December 16 and tourists coming to Thailand on a quarantine basis (Quarantine). Recall that these are unvaccinated tourists from any country in the world and vaccinated tourists wishing to visit the royal provinces that are not included in the "sandbox".

Tourists will be able to enter Thailand at all points of entry. The quarantine period for vaccinated tourists has been reduced. Subject to full vaccination, you will have to go through a 5-day quarantine - instead of the week one that is currently in force.

Tourists without a vaccine and with partial vaccination will have a 10-day quarantine in a pre-booked hotel, on days 4-5 they will need to pass a PCR test, it is also necessary upon arrival in Thailand and 72 hours before arrival.

Also, for entry, you will need an insurance policy with coverage of at least $ 50,000.
